For anyone involved in movement production or component supply, the more instructive story is not the anniversary itself but what the caliber at the center of this watch actually represents: a long-running platform pushed to a specific new technical conclusion.
A Platform With a 35-Year Production History
The movement inside the ref. 7357 is the cal. 187M1, the latest iteration of a platform whose origins trace to the cal. 558, Breguet’s original wristwatch tourbillon movement released in 1989. That lineage matters from a manufacturing standpoint. A movement architecture that has been in continuous production for more than 35 years carries with it refined tooling, stable supplier relationships, and accumulated process knowledge that a clean-sheet design simply cannot replicate at launch. The full-plate architecture remains, visible through the case back, and the mystery drive wheel — a sapphire crystal component that creates the visual impression of a suspended regulator — carries over from earlier executions in this family.
What the cal. 187M1 introduces is a true flying tourbillon. The upper support bridge has been eliminated entirely. This is a precise and consequential change: removing the upper pivot support demands that the cage construction and its lower bearing carry the full structural load, with no secondary registration point to correct for tilt or runout. The engineering tolerance requirements at the cage pivot and its jeweled seating become correspondingly tighter. Breguet’s earlier Classique Tourbillon Messidor 5335, released in 2007, approached this visual effect differently — its upper pivot was supported by a sapphire crystal bridge, which rendered the bridge nearly invisible without removing it. The Sidéral eliminates that bridge altogether, which is the specific mechanical delta between the two generations.

The Cage and the Sapphire Drive Wheel
The two-armed tourbillon cage spans nearly the full width of the dial aperture. At the component level, a cage of this diameter presents a familiar set of mass and inertia trade-offs: wider arms distribute structural load but add rotational inertia, which the mainspring must overcome continuously. Breguet’s retention of the sapphire crystal drive wheel — the mechanism that transmits power to the tourbillon without a conventional visible wheel at that interface — is not merely an aesthetic choice. Sapphire’s hardness and dimensional stability under varying temperature and humidity conditions make it a defensible material selection for a component that must maintain consistent mesh geometry over the service life of the movement.

The Dial: Fired Enamel, Not Sheet Aventurine
The case is platinum, 38 mm in diameter, with the fluted band, soldered lugs, and press-fit case back that define the Classique line’s case construction. The dial is black grand feu enamel with green undertones, and the distinction between this dial and the aventurine glass dials increasingly common across the industry is worth stating plainly for anyone specifying dial components. The Tourbillon Sidéral’s dial is fired enamel that replicates the optical appearance of aventurine, with copper flecks suspended in the enamel matrix. Each dial is produced individually. The process is traditional in method but executed with modern equipment, and the result is a surface that behaves differently under light than sheet aventurine — the copper inclusions read as point-source reflections rather than a uniform sparkle field.
Applied on top of the enamel surface is a black-coated white gold chapter ring, accompanied by applied gold wordmarks for “Breguet” and “Tourbillon.” The movement bridges and dial appliques carry rhodium plating in this platinum-cased edition, giving the metalwork a cool, muted tone that distinguishes it from the warmer “Breguet gold” alloy used in the original Sidéral released the prior year.

The Anniversary in Production Context
Breguet and his workshop produced 40 tourbillons between 1796 and 1829. The mechanism required six years of development after the patent was granted before the first examples reached customers. That pace reflects the genuine difficulty of the complication at the time. Whether that approach satisfies the engineering ambitions of the broader industry is a separate question, but as a production strategy for a 50-piece limited edition built on 35 years of accumulated process knowledge, it is coherent and defensible.
